Service Description

A work-in-progress presentation: Helmed by Khairul Kamsani Supported by the NAC SEP Grant Performed by: Nadia Rahman Kristina Pakhomova Cassandra Spykerman Audio & Video by Mervin Wong Set & Costume by Loo An Ni Lighting by Mariam Arshad Script by Celine Sara Thio Poster photography by Luca TCI "... I have arrived... framing myself in a foreign land..." Sita of Troy is a devised dance theatre piece exploring the lines between myth, legend, and fiction that frame the female gaze- unto the female and from their own eyes. What conjures Sita from the Ramayana and Helen of Troy to us in 2022? How could their stories meet today for a contemporary woman attempting to write her own legend? Is obscurity and compliance a place of refuge or will blazing a trail of fire be the way these women will be remembered? Supported by the National Arts Council Singapore Self-Employed Persons Grant and presented by Bold Moment Theatre, this project was created as a pilot for the Professional Practices Processes long form workshop. This devising platform aimed to connect professional practicing Self-Employed Freelancers into developing an aspect or branch of their craft in an experimental and exploratory way. This project is Khairul’s first foray into helming, directing, and choreographing a dance theatre piece which would not likely be an opportunity that he would usually be engaged with. Each participant in the project has navigated their own path of artistic and professional growth from the initial devising process since September 2020. Due to COVID regulations, the initial intention of a pre and post show discussion with the audience has been changed to an online feedback form. As this is a work-in-progress, we would sincerely appreciate your feedback on your experience at our presentation. Thank you. Run time: 70 minutes
